Shirdi Sai Baba
A hundred years ago lived a holy man in a
small Maharashtrian village and he is considered even today as one of the
greatest saints of the 20th Century - Sri Shirdi Sai Baba.
Life of Shirdi Sai Baba
Shirdi Sai Baba arrived at the village of
Shirdi in Maharashtra, India when he was around sixteen years of age. He lived
in the Khandoba temple, where one of the villagers first called him Sai ("saint").
He soon began to attract devotees who
addressed him by the name Baba
("father"). He worshipped at Hindu temples and Muslim mosques, and
encouraged tolerance between the religions. He perfomed numerous miracles and
his fame spread. Shirdi Sai Baba remained in Shirdi all his life.
He recited Hindu as well as Muslim
prayers. Many of his Hindu followers believe that he is an avatar of Shiva and Dattatreya.
The best-known book about Shirdi Sai Baba
is the Shri Sai Satcharita by Govindrao Dabholkar. The book recounts
Shirdi Sai Baba's life, teachings, and incidents of his miracles..
Shirdi baba attained Samadhi on October 15,
1918. A temple was built at Shirdi from where millions of people flock to for
his blessings even today.
Shirdi Baba’s Teachings
Through his life and practices, he showed
the world that religion is no barrier to the goal of universal humankind. He
exhibited miraculous powers and through purity of character and love of heart,
he won the hearts and souls of people from various backgrounds. Love was his message.
